Whenever MS Dhoni does anything, it is very calculated and often done with conviction. That is the reason why Virat Kohli and stand-in captain Rohit Sharma trust Dhoni’s judgment when going for DRS reviews.
Also, MS Dhoni only appeals for a dismissal behind the stumps when he is 100% sure. We got to see another example of this in the second ODI between New Zealand and India at Mount Maunganui when he stumped Ross Taylor.
India had posted 324 runs on the board batting first thanks to fifties from Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
While replying to India’s total, the Kiwis lost early wickets of Guptill, Munro and skipper Williamson and it was upto the experienced Ross Taylor to see his team through.
Taylor looked confident while tackling the Indian spinners when Jadhav got one to spin just a bit and Taylor went forward to defend it. MS Dhoni whipped the bails off in a split second and replays showed that Taylor’s foot was in the air for microseconds when the lights flashed on the stumps and the third umpire sent him back to pavilion.
This was MS Dhoni’s 119th stumping in ODI cricket and he is already the only keeper with over 100 stumpings in this format of the game.
